Residents along Bungay lake in North Attleboro and Mansfield were awakened early morning 7/5/08 to the smell of smoke and something burning. North Attleboro Police and Fire and Mansfield Fire were called to the scene to investigate. Upon arrival a second alarm was struck by North Attleboro for a fully involved two story wood frame structure on an Island about 200 to 300 yards off shore. Off duty North Attleboro fire Lt Flynn as well as other residents utilized their boats to assist firefighters to the Island with equipment and hose lines. The large house was belived to be vacant, there were other structures on the island however they were not involved. Mansfield, North Attleboro, Plainville, and Foxboro were all on scene. A supply line was stretched from shore to the island and several portable pumps were used on the island to supply water. There were no injuries, the fire is being investigated by Mansfield Fire and police.
