Cumberland Rhode Island firefighters responded to a reported structure fire at 1150 Mendon road around 11:45 pm Tuesday night. Upon arrival companies had heavy black smoke billowing from the one story commercial structure which houses a hair salon. Crews attempted to make an aggressive interior attack however were driven back by intense heat and poor visibility. Shortly after the deployment of the initial attack lines firefighters were ordered out of the building. Although it appears as though the salon was closed at the time of the blaze, it has been reported by several people on the scene there was a break in shortly before the fire occured. This has yet to be confirmed by police. No injuries were reported. The building is a total loss.
